ASSOCIATE OF SCIENCE DEGREE PROGRAMS:

FCIH offers two different types of Associate of Science (A.S.) degree programs in Integrative Health Studies. One with a concentration in Oriental Medicine and  two with a concentration in Ayurvedic Medicine.  All A.S. programs include the professional massage program curriculum and additional program hours in the student’s Asian modality specialization.

:: FCIH A.S. PROGRAMS ::

  • Include a massage Diploma
  • Involve an emphasis in ancient healing Paradigms deriving from Indian Ayurvedic Medicine or Traditional Chinese Medicine
  • Require that Anatomy and Physiology and general education course requirements be taken at another accredited institution and transferred to FCIH to confer degree

 The general education co-requisite requirement of 15 credits needs to be completed by the outlined completion schedule determined at enrollment. Although general education requirements can be transferred into FCIH from any accredited college, FCIH encourages students to fulfill this requirement at Manatee Community College (MCC) as most of the requirements can be satisfied online.

Students are required to take 3 semester credits in each of the five different gen. ed. categories acceptable for the level of an Associates of Science degree: I Written communication, II Mathematics, III Social/behavioral sciences, IV Humanities,  and V Natural science.

Recommended courses for FCIH A.S. degrees Categories I-III:

 These courses are provided online from MCC: ENC 1101 Written Communication; MAC 1105 College Algebra; and PSY 2012 General Psychology.

Recommended courses for completion of A.S. general education requirements IV and V may not be available online through MCC as the selection for those categories are sparsely offered online. The courses for categories IV and V may have to be taken at the MCC campus.

Recommended Courses for general education Category  IV:

The Humanities category offers a selection from three sub-categories: a) Literature, b) Arts and humanities and c) Philosophy and religion. Generally, MCC will require the ENC 1101 Written Communication course as a prerequisite to sub categories a and b. Therefore, although all acceptable humanities courses can be transferred, of MCC offerings FCIH recommends sub section c courses: PHI 2001 Intro to Philosophy I; PHI 2002 Intro to Phil II; PHI 2600 Applied Ethics; REL 2000 Intro to World religions as they have no prerequisite requirement.

Recommended Courses for general education Category V:

 Although any basic natural science course can be transferred except an Anatomy and physiology or like course, MCC offerings of : BSC 100SC Diversity of Life; CHM 1022C The Chemistry of Everyday Life and PSC 1121C are recommended. Intro to Biology , although 4 credits,  is recommended to those students interested in continuing on for the

Master’s in Oriental Medicine or to those who plan to continue on in advanced college studies.
